Isometric Mid Thigh Pull - The Ultimate Performance Test?๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ
โ €
Developments in assessment technology have made tests like the Isometric Mid Thigh Pull (IMTP) foundational strength and power assessments for athletes globally.โ €๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผ‍โ™€๏ธ
โ €
What is the IMTP?๐Ÿงโ €
โ €
A maximal isometric action allows individuals to produce a greater force than a maximal concentric action. The IMTP requires an individual to pull on a fixed barbell with a maximal effort for 3-5 seconds. When performed on top of a Stomp-IT plate, the test can quantify peak force and rate of force development (RFD).โ €
โ €
The isometric mid-thigh pull test is an effective and reliable way to test maximal strength in youth and adult athletes. Research has shown that performance variables from the IMTP test correlate to athletic movements such as the vertical jump and sprint speed. Administering the IMTP test is a safer and more time-efficient method than traditional 1RM testing which also benefits athletes with a low training age.โ €

Wang et al investigated this further in their research looking at the IMTP correlation to strength, sprint and agility performance by comparing results to a 1 Rep Max Squat, 40-metre sprint and the Proagility and Agility T-test.โœ…โœ…โœ…โ €
โ €
Their findings indicated that Peak Force and Rate Of Force Development as can be measured on the AxIT Stomp-IT with the IsoRack platform were associated with strength, agility and sprint performance.๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿปโ €

Why is this important?โ €
โ €
As health and fitness professionals our goal is often to assist the people we work with to achieve amazing results on the sporting field. Unfortunately we are often limited in our ability to assess speed and agility due to time, space and location restraints.โ €
โ €
Research suggests utilising tests like the IMTP with the AxIT Stomp-IT allows health and fitness professionals to gain insight into speed and agility in a way that requires a small footprint and doesn’t need a lot of time or advanced training age to perform.โ €
